Y U NO CATCH BB KILLERZ: Mumtaz Bhutto

Okay, no that wasn’t the headline that the piece was printed with, unfortunately, but it might as well have been. Anyway, THIS was the story that inspired all the ‘Y U NO’ madness yesterday. Don’t blame me; you’d go cuckoo too, if you OD-ed on Mumtaz Bhutto.

ALL-OUT ATTACK

PPP leadership ‘shedding crocodile tears’, says Mumtaz

KARACHI: Sindh National Front (SNF) chief Mumtaz Bhutto went on an all-out attack again on Monday against the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leadership, questioning their right to, in his words, “shed crocodile tears” over former PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto’s grave during her death anniversary.

“These people took over power and have enjoyed themselves after her death, but even after the passage of three years, no action has been taken against Benazir Bhutto’s murderers,” Mumtaz Bhutto said. “This is despite the fact that [President Asif Ali] Zardari said on day one that he was aware of who the murderers were, and that, the UN report has also mentioned their names.”

His allegations, however, come a day after President Zardari announced that the party has reservations against the UN report regarding Benazir Bhutto’s assassination precisely because it named no names.

Undeterred and shifting goalposts halfway, Mumtaz Bhutto went on to question even the recent arrest of some police officers in connection with the former PPP chairperson’s death. “They could have been arrested long ago,” he claimed. “Why did [the PPP leadership] have to wait to long to take this step? The current leaders have ruined things to such an extent that even the Army, which can take over whenever it wants, it reluctant to step in and clean things up.”

“The ruling party and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) are using each other, and the ‘mafia’ displays undue laxness towards [Sindh Home Minister] Zulfiqar Mirza,” he said. “The entire country is embroiled in provincial politics at the moments; no one cares about the federation. Wars are underway in FATA, Khyber-Pukhtunkhwa and Balochistan.”

Delving into racism towards the end, Mumtaz Bhutto added that half of Sindh is controlled by the MQM, and the other half is controlled by “criminals”; while “Punjab is ruled by Punjabis”. “The MQM does not have the right to use the ‘Sindh card’; they can’t even use the ‘Karachi card’ anymore, because the Awami National Party has challenged them there,” he maintained.
